Description
Alternanthera reineckii Scarlet Temple – 6oz Tissue culture Jar Ready for planting Lab Grown
Care and requirements
-
- Lighting: Medium to high lighting is needed to achieve vibrant red color; lower lighting will result in more brownish-red tones.
- Substrate: A nutrient-rich substrate is preferable.
- Nutrients: Fertilization, especially with iron, is crucial for maintaining color and preventing chlorosis (leaf paleness). High nitrates and phosphates are also beneficial.
- CO2: While not strictly necessary for survival, CO2 injection will lead to brighter colors and more vigorous growth.
- Water Parameters: Prefers a temperature range of 68−82°𝐹
- Placement: Best suited for the midground or background of an aquarium.
- Propagation: Can be propagated by trimming the stems and replanting them.
- Maintenance: Trim the stems regularly to encourage bushier growth and prevent the plant from becoming spindly.
Common issues
- Pale leaves (Chlorosis): This is often a sign of insufficient light or a micronutrient deficiency, particularly iron.
- Melting: Drastic changes to water parameters can cause the plant to melt.
- Algae: The plant can be prone to algae if the aquarium environment isn’t stable.
