Description
10 Red Root Floater – Live Aquarium PlantsÂ
Red root floaters (Phyllanthus fluitans) are easy to care for and can thrive in a variety of conditions:Â
-
-
Water flow
Red root floaters prefer gentle water flow and do not do well in areas with high surface agitation. Turbulent flow can damage the plant.Â
-
Lighting
Red root floaters can tolerate a wide range of lighting conditions. Low to medium light levels will keep the leaves bright green, while higher light levels will cause the leaves to turn red and propagate faster.Â
-
-
Water temperature
Red root floaters thrive in temperatures between 70–82°F.Â
-
Water hardness
Hard water is recommended for high light conditions, while soft water is recommended for low light conditions.Â
-
Nutrients
Red root floaters don’t require CO2 supplementation because they get it from their leaves, which stay at the top of the tank. However, you can supplement with nutrient liquid fertilizer to accelerate propagation.Â
-
Nitrate levels
Low nitrate levels in the water column will turn the leaves redder. Red root floaters can be used as an indicator of nitrate levels in the tank, turning deep red at low nitrate levels and completely green at high nitrate levels.Â
-
ShadeLarge numbers of red root floaters can block light from reaching other plants in the tank.Â
